Kofi Annan will be the keynote speaker of this year’s Nutreco’s AgriVision conference, which takes place in the Netherlands from 13 to 15 June 2017.

Calling on his vast experience as former Secretary-General of the UN, chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation, member of The Elders and many other roles, he will address close to 400 leaders in the agrifood industry.

This year’s conference will provide a platform to discuss developments in agricultural technology, the pressing global public health issue of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of agricultural development for feeding a growing world population.

Speaking about world food crisis

Kofi Annan was the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, serving two terms from 1 January 1997 to 31 December 2006. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize. He is the founder and chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation, as well as member of The Elders, an international organisation founded by Nelson Mandela. Since leaving the United Nations, Kofi Annan has continued to press for better policies to meet the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable. He has also continued to use his experience to mediate and resolve conflicts. As chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, Kofi Annan has warned that the current food security crisis, with almost one billion people hungry, could turn into a permanent disaster, endangering millions of lives and undermining international cooperation.
