Adifo introduces enzyme calculator

11-10-2011 | |

Belgium based least-cost software specialist Adifo introduced the Enzyme Formulation tool in its Bestmix feed optimizing program at their recently held International Bestmix conference.

It is known for a long time that the addition of enzymes improves feed digestibility, but up to what level was until now not possible to value in a least-cost feed calculation.

With the new tool it is now possible to visualize the added value of NSP and phytase enzymes in Adifo’s Bestmix least-cost formulation.

However, tests have shown that the power to release digestible P out of plant phytate is not linear. This means that the first 250 FTU of phytase will release more digestible P than the second 250 FTU included in a compound. With the enzyme calculator also the non-linear mode of action of phytase will be easier to control.

How it works
If phytase is added to the feed, more digestible phosphor will become available. An additional effect of adding phytase is that more energy and amino acids will be available to the animal. This has to do with neutralisation of the anti-nutritional effect of phytate in the feed.

The new enzyme tool calculates the cheapest solution for compound feed containing phytase and the highest profit. Furthermore it calculates the optimal inclusion of phytase: using as less as possible of scarce resources.

There is only one ingredient for the definition of the non-linear effect of phytase, and no simulation by offering several ingredients and thus it keeps the ingredient matrix clean. Product recalculation takes the non-linear effect into account

“Bestmix is the only tool that takes the ‘non-linear effect’ of phytase into account during the optimization,” said Jean Broers, product manager Bestmix at Adifo. “Only in this way you get the highest possible profit out of your compound feed.”
