In Europe, the market is waiting for the EU commission to come with a first provisional direction around the lysine anti-dumping case. According to the official website of the EU, that communication should be on December 20th. Learn more in this week’s feed additives snapshot (week 51).

The market came to a stop in the EU. In other regions, lysine is mostly stable and demand is good.

Threonine prices have been increased by Chinese suppliers on a FOB China basis. Some activity was seen as a result of that, but nothing significant so far. Q1 is well contracted already.

The valine market was active last couple of weeks, but has become calmer now. After a long period of price decline, the market has turned around and prices have been going up. Most forward contracts have been concluded by now.

Methionine shows very little movement, other than slow gradual price decline. Availability seems to be good and no nearby change is expected. Tryptophan has been stable to weak lately in most regions. But in Europe some first signs of price stabilisation and even a small increase is seen.

Lysine

According to the official EU timeline, there should be a communication on December 20 about the provisional measures around the lysine anti-dumping case for Chinese lysine into Europe. The whole EU market has come to a standstill awaiting this news. Prices are stable and actual new transactions are not seen right now. In other regions, lysine prices are mostly stable and demand is good. Prices FOB China have been stable as well for some weeks. The market is already mostly contracted for Q1.

Threonine

Suppliers in China have been keen to increase the prices of threonine, especially last week. And FOB China prices indeed went up a bit. Slightly higher prices have been paid but no significant volumes behind it. Most of Q1 is contracted for export regions and the local buffering in China for CNY has almost ended. Buyers in Europe are facing slightly higher prices starting to cover the remainder of Q1 needs as the price is increasing a bit due to the weak EUR against the USD and firmer container freight rate. In the USA, the market is still firm for specifically threonine granular products.

DL-Methionine

Slightly weaker prices again in Europe, while other regions seem mostly stable this week. Some of the Chinese suppliers are not keen to offer right now. The market seems well-supplied, but the trend feels weak. No nearby changes are expected. Q1 is not fully contracted yet.

Tryptophan

At least in Europe, the tryptophan market has been a bit more active and prices have stopped declining. A slight increase has even been seen here and there. In general, looking at all major regions, the market is stable and prices are not moving really. This is after a weaker period recently. Q1 is only partly contracted, but some additional cover is taken now in for example Europe.

Valine

After an active market in several regions last weeks, and firmer prices in general, it is now cooling down again in terms of actual transactions. After a long period of price decline in 2024, recently the market turned around and Q1 and a portion of Q2 have been contracted. Prices have moved up by around 20%. It is now getting calmer and quieter again, although higher prices seem to be sticking, at least for now.
