Russia’s Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, has placed temporary restrictions on products imported from a Brazilian food company due to ractopamine detection.

Russia and Brazil have a bilateral agreement on the non-use of the controversial growth promoter for production of animal products intended for import to the Russian Federation.

The restrictions have been imposed on BRF SA (establishment No.3681) from June 19, 2014. BRF is the world’s tenth-largest food company and Brazil’s second in revenue. All products consignments imported to the Russian Federation and shipped before the above-mentioned date will be subjected to total laboratory testing.

The Rosselkhoznadzor has forwarded the appropriate letter to Brazil’s National Veterinary Services, in which it indicated the necessity for telephone consultations between the competent authorities of both countries.
