Minister of Finance, Mr Seth Terkper ,recently stated that the Government would pursue an accelerated aquaculture development strategy in 2014 to fill in the gap in fish supply.
The government will also improve their Aquaculture development packages such as, feed whilst credit facilities will be rolled out to interested farmers. Mr Terkper , stated this in the 2014 Financial Budget presented to Parliament on the theme: “Sustaining Confidence in the Future of the Ghanaian Economy”.
The Finance Minister said farmers would be trained to increase fish pond productivity from 1.5 metric tons/ha to 2.5 metric tons/ha whilst output will be increase from the current 20,000mt to 40,000mt. He said the construction of the administration block, hostels, laboratories and lecture halls for the Fisheries College at Anomabo would be continued.
