Mr Karthivashan Govindarajan, PhD candidate, won the 1st edition of the Veterinarian Nor-Feed Award thanks to his work on the nutritional role of Moringa oleifera extracts on broilers.
Published in 2015, his thesis was conducted with the scientific team of the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). His works identify and highlight the role of this plant’s active compounds on production performance and quality of poultry meat, in particular by improving the broilers’ antioxidant status. “I am a strong believer in the elite potential of natural products as the source of active candidates in the field of nutrient supplement in both human and animal health and nutrition,” said the Prize winner.
The active compounds of Moringa oleifera leaves extracts were carefully analysed to understand its activity and efficient impact in broiler performance. “Adapting and optimising Moringa oleifera leaves extract as a dietary supplement will surely help the researchers, farmers and feed professionals to provide an efficient and cost-effective feed for broilers,” he declared.
The award includes a prize of €5,000. Nor-Feed plans to organise a 2nd edition of this competition next year.
