Indonesian feed industry on the rise again

25-07-2007 | |

After being hit by bird flu, the poultry consumption seems to increase again in Indonesia. This increase is expected to increase the Indonesian animal feed output with 5% to 7.5 million tonnes this year.

Despite an expected rise in feed demand, Budiarto
Soebijanto, chairman of the Indonesian Feedmills Association said Indonesia’s
corn imports would fall to around 1 million tonnes this year, from 1.7 million
tonnes in 2006 due to expected higher corn output.

The statistics bureau
expects the country’s corn output to rise 7.24% to 12.45 million tonnes this
year from 11.61 million tonnes in 2006. Soymeal imports this year are estimated
to remain stable at 1.7-1.8 million tonnes.
