New oregano supplement enters the market

22-10-2007 | |

Following 18 months of successful trial on farms in Yorkshire, a new feed supplement based on oregano is ready to enter the market.

Ropadiar, the brand name of the product is being
marketed by GE Baker in the UK. The product can be used in pigs and poultry as
an appetiser and flavouring agent. In addition, it is claimed that it increases
feed intake, and therefore growth rate, particularly among weaners and growing
pigs as well as broilers. Improved performance has also been recorded in egg
layers.

Specially selected plants
Made by Ropapharm
International in the Netherlands, Ropadiar contains oregano oils extracted from
specially selected plants. These are said to contain antibacterial, antifungal,
anti-parasitic and anti-oxidative properties as well as having a positive effect
on the immune system.

No withdrawal time
Suitable
for both feed manufacturers and home-mixers, it is available in 25 kg bags and
7.5 kg tubs. Ropadiar is added to diets at between 150g and 500g per tonne.
Being a natural product, no withdrawal time is necessary.
