European based feed additives company Orffa and its global subsidiary Excentials will launch a new generation of organic selenium for the global animal nutrition market.
The product will be marketed under the brand name Excential Selenium4000.
Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element for human and animal health and supply of an adequate level in the diet is highly important. Selenium sources added to the animal diet can be categoriSed as inorganic or organic. Excential Selenium4000 is a completely new form of organic selenium and is available for animal nutrition from now onwards.
The traditional way of supplying organic selenium is in the form of selenised yeast. Organic selenium has been proven superior in bioavailability in a great share of animal trials. However, there is a limitation of selenised yeast and this lies in the fact that only part of the selenium is in the form of selenomethionine, which is the actual effective organic form and on top yeast is not 100% digestible. The new product Excential Selenium4000 tackles these issues effectively, the company states. The product shows no variation in concentration and all selenium is in the form of effective digestible organic selenium. Intensive trial work in laying hens and dairy cows show the superior bioavailability of Excential Selenium4000 over selenised yeast.
The product has now been authorised in Europe as a nutritional feed additive for use in all animal species. Within Europe the product will be marketed via Orffa and outside Europe the product will be launched via the Excentials network.
