Phytobiotics helds succesful meeting in Italy

Dr. Franco Calini, an independent poultry consultant in Italy, provided interesting insights into the Italian poultry market and eating habits there. Dr. Calini also informed seminar participants on the latest findings in the areas of breeding, feeding and reproduction.

In a lecture entitled “Intestinal Health and the Role of Benzophenanthridine Alkaloids,” Prof. Sergio Vieira (Porto Alegre, Brazil) explained the requirements placed on alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters (AGP). Using the established Sangrovit® additive as an example, he showed that herbal alternatives with outstanding results in scientific tests are already available. He highlighted the additive’s potential when it comes to increased performance and supporting vitality of animals.

On the faculty of the University of Leeds in Great Britain, Prof. J. Michael Forbes dealt with feed ingestion and options for influencing it. His studies showed the influences of bad taste, colour, protein content, etc. on feed ingestion. The subject of Dr. William W. Riley’s (Jinan University, China) subsequent lecture was “Alternatives to AGP´s for the Prevention and Control of Enteric Pathogens”. The results of international research prove that Sangrovit® can be used to check intestinal lesions that are caused by salmonella and clostridia.
