EFSA has given a positive scientific opinion for use of Bactocell (Pediococcus acidilactici MA 18/5M, deposited at Institut Pasteur) as a zootechnical feed additive in minor species.

The opinion, given by the Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP), part of EFSA entails the use of this additive in minor poultry species such as duck and game (quail, pheasant etc.) (fattening and laying) and minor porcine categories,  (weaned and for fattening), including boar.

The opinion is also positive on the re-evaluation of the additive for pigs for fattening and chickens for fattening. The opinion covers both the use of the additive in feed and livestock drinking water.

The additive, produced by Lallemand Animal Nutrition, is already authorised in the European Union for use in laying hens, chickens for fattening, weaned piglets, pigs for fattening and aquaculture (all fish and shrimps).
