Similarly, incorporating the product into the diet of Japanese seabass at concentrations of 1-2 g/kg boosted growth, immunity, and survival after an Aeromonas veronii challenge. Moreover, YeaMOS has been shown to benefit various aquatic species by improving growth, immunity, and intestinal health while mitigating the toxic effects of contaminants like vomitoxin in turbot. In Pacific white shrimp, a 102-day study demonstrated that feeding 0.1% and 0.5% increased growth and survival rates.
YeaMOS also offers promise in addressing mycotoxin challenges. It has been shown to mitigate the effects of aflatoxin in tilapia and turbot, enhancing immune responses and reducing mycotoxin residues. Additionally, in silver gibel carp, YeaMOS improved resistance to bacterial infections without significantly affecting growth.
Optimal inclusion rates in aquaculture feeds
The optimal inclusion rate of YeaMOS varies by species. Research has shown:
- Pacific white shrimp: 0.67% improves enzyme activity in serum, muscle, and hepatopancreas.
- Eel: 0.4% enhances lysozyme activity in serum.
- Silver crucian carp: 1% yields optimal results in immune enhancement.
- Channel catfish and grass carp: 8% inclusion optimises immune response and disease resistance.
- Mississippi paddlefish: 10% significantly boosts leukocyte phagocytosis and lysozyme activity.
