Vietnam is planning to nearly double the area planted to soybean this year to 410,000 hectares by 2010, a local crop production agency said to the Xinhua news agency.
Vietnam planted 210,000ha in 2006.The
expected rise in the area planted will lead to production of around 700,000t,
and will satisfy around half of the country’s domestic demand for
soybeans.
To do so, farmers in
Vietnam
are now choosing soybean varieties with higher productivity and quality
and the government is disseminating information on how to grow the
crops.
