The glucan and mannan in the yeast cell walls have been widely studied and gained commercial interest for their extensive industrial applications immunology, tissue engineering, vaccines, and drug delivery.
Yeast cell walls consists of β-glucan, mannan, protein, lipid, and chitin, among which β-glucan accounts for about 29-64%, mannan-oligosaccharide 31%, protein 13%, lipid 9%, and chitin 1-2%. Yeast cell wall components, including mannan, β-glucan, and chitin, have been evaluated for commercial applications.
But the normal yeast cell wall directly separated from yeast is not usually water-soluble, so for animals, it is typically used in feed. With more than 20 years of R&D, Angel Yeast developed a unique yeast cell wall product, YeaMOS S, which has a high concentration of mannan-oligosaccharides (≥40.0%) purified from premium yeast cell walls derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Because it is completely water soluble, YeaMOS S can be used in watering systems.
Agglutinate pathogens and prevent pathogens from agglutinate to gut receptors
Because concentrated yeast mannan-oligosaccharides has a similar structure to the agglutinate site of pathogens on the intestinal wall, it competitively agglutinates the pathogens and interferes with the pathogens and the intestinal wall. As the mannan-oligosaccharides cannot be digested by pathogens and intestinal enzymes, the tightly bound pathogen-mannan oligosaccharides complex can be discharged from the body.
Balance intestinal microflora
Yeast mannan-oligosaccharide is a type of prebiotic originated from the yeast cell wall. It can be selectively utilised by beneficial populations in the gut like Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus spp and have a function in the barrier, nutrition and immunity.
Applications for animals
High solubility in water
The solubility of different concentrations of YeaMOS S in water showed that even at a dose of under 1%, the solution is still clear and transparent. So YeaMOS S has the potential to be used directly in the water system, or mixed with other water-soluble products, such as organic acids or milk, for example, for animal health care.
Enhance gut health
Numerous studies have investigated prebiotic effects of mannan in animals and human models. For animals, populations of beneficial bacteria, including Bifidobacterium and Lactobacilli, were elevated, and the E.coli population was lower in the ceca of broilers fed MOS, without boiler growth change between the diets.
Improve broiler growth performance
About 60,000 day-old white-feather broilers were randomly divided into 2 treatments and fed commercial broiler diets (Shenyang Dacheng). The broilers in the control group were fed normal water, and the experimental group was fed water with 200g/t of YeaMOS S. The test period was 45 days.
The performance of broilers drinking water supplemented with 200g/t YeaMOS S was better than the control group. The whole feed ratio results showed that the feed-to-meat ratio decreased by 0.05 when drinking water added 200g/t YeaMOS S.
In summary, YeaMOS S, a specialised product derived from the yeast cell wall, demonstrates remarkable properties that enhance animal health and performance.
Its high water solubility, ability to agglutinate pathogens, and prebiotic effects on beneficial gut microflora position it as a valuable addition to animal feed and watering systems.
The promising results from various studies underscore the potential of YeaMOS S in improving gut health and growth performance in animals, thereby offering significant benefits to the livestock industry.
