Australia has fewer cattle on grain compared with last year. A drop of 36% was seen as a result from high feed grain prices and a strong Australian dollar.
However, a bumper sorghum crop should now work in the industry’s favour, says
Malcolm Foster from the Australian Lot Feeders Association.
“If we have
return to normal seasons and grain production in Australia during 2008 then we
will see grain prices come back to some degree and the sums will start to work
when grain prices come back, cattle prices come back or meat prices rise or all
three” says Foster.
