The high price of feed has forced Butterball LLC, the largest turkey company in the US, to shut the doors of its Colorado plant at the end of this year.
Butterball has reported that it will close its plant in Longmont, at the end of this year due to high feed and fuel costs and will focus on operating its five other plants more efficiently.
The company noted that its feed costs have increased an average of $65 million per year for the last five years.
The Longmont plant produces packaged sliced turkey luncheon meat, cooked deli breasts and hot dogs and employs 350 people
