French farmers reject reintroduction of animal protein in feeds

25-07-2011 | |

The BSE crises is still in their memory and with that in mind two thirds of the French farmers oppose the introduction of animal protein in the diet of pigs and poultry.

According to a survey conducted between 11 and 18 July 65.1% of the 324 responding farmers opposed the introduction of animal protein in feed for pigs and poultry; 26.5% were in favour.

The reluctance is less pronounced in other EU countries, but Agricultural unions fear that the incorporation of animal proteins in livestock will be another source of trade distortion among European competitors.
