Kroger Co. recalls pet foods due to aflatoxin
The Kroger Co. in the US has issued an active recall for several of their dog and cat food brands on concerns that these products may contain aflatoxin, a toxic but naturally occurring mycotoxin that is produced by the Aspergillus fungus.
Aflatoxins are known carcinogens and exposure can lead to liver disease, digestive problems, and/or mental problems. It is for these reasons that a cautionary approach is being taken and all suspected foods recalled.

Symptoms of aflatoxicosis in pets include sluggishness, lethargy, loss of appetite, yellowing of the eyes or gums (indications of liver involvement), and severe or bloody diarrhoea.
