Monsanto’s roundup ready canola gets Canadian approval

29-06-2012 | |

Canada’s food inspection agency, CFIA and Health Canada have granted Monsanto’s next generation Roundup Ready canola trait, full food, feed and environmental safety approval.

CFIA’s Plant Biosafety Office and Animal Feed Division granted its approval June 8, 2012, while the food approval from Health Canada was completed June 18, 2012.

The new canola trait will be marketed under the brand name TruFlex Roundup Ready canola and is Monsanto’s latest Genuity canola trait.

Additional regulatory submissions have been made in key production and import countries and Monsanto continues to test trait performance in broadly-adapted germplasm. While additional export country approvals are required prior to commercial launch, Monsanto Canada continues to work closely with the Canola Council of Canada (CCC) to keep them informed of global regulatory approvals and commercial launch plans.

A commercial preview launch to farmers is expected in 2014
