More animal feed demand in Brazil

27-11-2007 | |

This year, more feed has been consumed in the Brazilian feed, pet food and fish feed sectors, according to Brazilian Feed Industry Association estimations.

The amount of cattle feed consumed has increased as a result of higher beef
exportation rate, better prices for live cattle and more cattle raised in
semi-feed lot systems. Feed output for dairy cows increased as a result of
better milk by-products prices.

Higher feed
prices
This higher feed demanded, however, has resulted in lower
profitability because price of grains and nutritional additives have
skyrocketed. Simultaneously, nutritional additives – vitamins, enzymes and amino
acids – have showed higher prices. Agriculture commodities – corn, soybean,
wheat – have followed the same direction mainly influenced by international
quotation and sought globally.
