Olmix to expand activities in Ivory Coast

French animal nutrition company Olmix is expanding its production and research facilities in Africa’s Ivory Coast.

The expansion has been agreed between Hervé Balusson, CEO of Olmix and the Ivory Coast’s Minister of Livestock and Fishery Resources, Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani.

The expansion of activities includes a plant in Grand Bassam Free Zone, which will focus on manufacturing products for animal nutrition based on Breton algae concentrates and local proteins and a laboratory for animal health, mycotoxin analysis and food security, under the auspices of the Ivorian authorities. The latter is needed because owing to its climate, Africa faces a significant presence of mycotoxins in the raw materials intended for animal and human nutrition.

Olmix has been present in West Africa (Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Mali) for almost ten years. A recent study conducted with Olmix products on Ivory Coast-based poultry farms showed that death rates dropped by 50% in the farms where the algal products were used.
