Five new compound feed mills are planned for the Kursk region in the central European section of Russia for 2013.
According to official reports the new enterprises will have a production capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year, resulting in the production level of animal feed in the region rising from the current 700,000 tonnes to approximately 1,200 thousand tonnes by the end of 2013.
The first feed mill with capacity of 20,000 tonnes per year has already been launched in Sudzhansky. It was commissioned by the local livestock company “Sudzha-Agroinvest”. The total investment of the project was RUB 146 mln (US$4.5 mln). “The feed mill is fully automated, which is very important in terms of reaching the planning production indicators. In addition, the plant will operate only on its own resources base, including soy, corn and other feed production ingredients” the press release stated.
According to experts, the Kursk region is currently considered one of the fastest growing regions in Russia in terms of feed production levels. In 2011 it produced only 350,000 tonnes of compound feed while by 2016 this figure could rise four-fold to 1.3-1.4 mln tonnes. For the past two years, investment in the construction of the facilities for compound feed production in the region exceeded RUB 1.5 billion (US$ 50 mln).
