Sri Lankan authorities arrest feed miller for using edible rice in animal feed

An investigation by the consumer authority in Sri Lanka revealed that some rice millers in Polonnaruwa are producing animal feed from rice that is fit for human consumption. A punishable offence.

According to Sri Lankan law it is illegal to sell or stock animal feed made out of rice or paddy suitable for human consumption.
 
An officer from the Consumer Affairs Authority said on information received by them a raid was carried out at a rice mill in Bendiwewa area where 20,000 kilos of animal feed made from a stock of good quality rice fit for human consumption was detected.
 
The matter will be taken up by the court.
