The chart provided by the US Grain’s Council shows Ukraine’s corn exports for the October-September marketing year as reported by the State Customs Committee of the Ukraine.
Showing sales for the first six months of the current marketing year (2011/2012), Ukraine’s exports of corn have increased significantly, especially to the North Africa markets, keeping US exporters from entering these markets consistently.
While Ukraine’s corn exports were fairly stable from 2008/09 to 2010/11, exports in the current year show a dramatic increase.
Current US Department of Agriculture projections for 2011/12 is 14 million tonnes compared with 9 million tons (354 million bushels) already reported by Ukraine in just the first six months of the marketing year.
Ukraine has increased exports in North Africa, the Middle East and Europe, while also gaining first-time significant sales to Asia.
Ukraine’s corn exports to Former Soviet Union (FSU) countries have disappeared.
