US: 2014 corn export predictions to China hampered
The initial expectations for US corn exports to China are not looking as if they will come to pass.
In its December World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimate, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) pegged China to import 7-million metric tons (276 million bushels) of US corn during the current marketing year.
Now – it doesn’t look like China will meet those initial expectations due to a dilemma causing disruption in the marketplace.
In November – China rejected several shipments of corn that contained unapproved GMO corn strain. US Grains Council President and CEO Tom Sleight says this situation has interrupted the pace of US corn exports to China – but the Council remains engaged with all parties in China to keep this issue from becoming overstated.
