Worldwide demand for US grains continues to climb says Ken Hobbie, president and CEO of the US Grains Council. “We’re almost at the point where we’re going to set export levels that we have not seen since 1980” he said at the US Grains Council marketing conference and membership meeting.
DDGS market is promising
Also more grains
are exported to Central America, South America and North Africa. Still, he says
a worldwide economic slowdown is the biggest risk for exports and record high
freight costs worldwide are a huge cost factor. But the market for distiller’s
dried grains with solubles (DDGS), Hobbie says, is very promising, “We’ve been
very fortunate that with the ethanol industry that’s developing in the US and
the byproduct that’s coming out that that we have another feed ingredient to
offer our customers that helps keep their feed manufacturing costs
low.”
