Thai minister of commerce has allowed feed meal producers to increase the price of feed by Thb10 (US$0.33) per 30kg bag, resulting in higher costs for livestock farmers.
Director general for the International Trade Department Wiboonlasana Ruamraksa said “the department had allowed the increase in the price of feed meal as raw materials were becoming increasingly expensive”.
Producers could be urged to cut down on their marketing costs before being allowed to increase their retail prices. At the moment no livestock producers have asked the department for permission to increase their prices.
Feed meal for aquaculture, poultry and cows have also increased in price. Wiboonlasana said the department would not allow any retailers to increase their prices due to the price of feed meal, as it only accounts for a very small percentage of their production costs.
