UK: Feed firm joins fodder aid mission

Although flood waters have started to recede in the Somerset Levels, but the Forage Aid mission is still going strong, according to Farmers Guardian.

Flood-stricken farmers who have seen swathes of crops wiped out and have lost thousands of pounds of fodder in the floods continue to appeal for help.

The feed will be particularly valuable over the forthcoming weeks and months as farmers battle to get back on their feet.

Dodson and Horrell, one of Europe’s leading animal feed manufacturers has delivered more than 10 tonnes of feed for distribution to local farmers in the area.

The firm’s marketing director Sam Horrell said:  “Anything we can do to help the plight of farmers in the West Country at this very difficult time is a bonus, what they have had to endure is unbelievable and hopefully this donation will help in some small way.”

The feed has been accepted on behalf of the community by Dragon’s Den star Deborah Meaden who lives locally and James Winslade from Burrowbridge, whose farm has been one of the worst hit.

Mr Winslade, whose farm has been under water for almost eight weeks, added: “It has been a terrible time for farmers here on the Levels – and we don’t forget those affected in other parts of the country too – but the devastation that we have all had to face has been heart wrenching.

“The response from everyone both here in the West Country and further afield has been amazing and, at times, overwhelming.”
