Ukraine’s 2013 grain exports to hit record high

Ukraine has exported nearly 23 million tonnes of grain during the first half of the year. Corn produced the largest export volumes of 13.5 million tonnes. Second was wheat with 6.8 million tonnes. The export volumes of domestic corn are the biggest since independence. It was announced by Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.

“To date almost 23 million tonnes of Ukrainian wheat have been exported. It’s nearly 1 million tonnes more compared to the previous marketing year. In general, the export dynamics are stable. In June-July, farmers have exported nearly two million tonnes of grain,” Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said.

To the June 30, the farmers have exported 13.5 million tonnes of corn and 6.8 million tonnes of wheat.

In general, according to the Minister, 2013 grain export is one of the biggest since independence. During the last 7 years on average 14.7 million tonnes of grain have been supplied to foreign markets.

“Ukraine can produce and export more grain. We will do everything to ensure internal food security and meet increasing global demand of grain. To do this, we continue to coordinate the actions of government, business and producers, including the Memorandum signed between the Ministry and traders in late June,” said Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.
