AFIA schedules Feed Industry Institute in June

01-03-2010 | |

Every two years, the American Feed Industry Association’s Purchasing and Ingredient Suppliers Committee hosts the Feed Industry Institute, a four-day event of educational programming about all aspects of the feed industry.

Animal nutrition, ingredients, distribution and quality—these topics and more are covered at the FII. This year’s event will be at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark, June 14-17.

Professionals from the feed industry are the FII instructors. The classroom-style setting arms participants with a wealth of information about nutrition, ingredients, quality programs, legislation and regulations.

Participants also benefit from learning who to contact when questions arise long after the event is over.

While the FII is particularly useful to individuals who are relatively new to the feed industry, industry veterans have said they also learned new things and gained a renewed sense of understanding about various facets of the industry.

“AFIA’s Feed Industry Institute is considered a key cog in our training portfolio for both new employees and experienced members,” said Nathan Yates, director of agribusiness for the US and Canadian region for Corn Products International.

“As a graduate myself, I can attest to the value the program provides in the form of a well-rounded platform which includes presentations on many different feed ingredients and aspects of feed manufacturing.”

Another veteran of the FII shared similar views. “The Feed Industry Institute has been viewed by myself and others within our company as an excellent, cost-effective opportunity to provide training and education to new employees and also as a refresher for some of our experienced staff,” said Dean Barker, operations director of Provimi-North America.

“We have generally received very positive comments from those we have sent to the institute, and many of these people have been given increased responsibilities within our company.”
