The December issue of All About Feed is now available online. This issue covers the Rabobank event in Australia on the future of food, an interview with the new FEFANA president and much more!

More than 1200 farmers and food and agribusiness industry stakeholders from around the world attended the Farm2Fork Summit held on November 3 in Sydney, Australia. Hosted by Dutch based agricultural bank Rabobank, the event brought together delegates and speakers from across the sector with a focus on food and agri tech and innovation and its role in feeding more than 12 billion people by 2100. Read all about it on page 12 of this issue. The Farm2Fork event hosted the King and Queen of the Netherlands with King Willem-Alexander providing a keynote address.

2030 vision

This year, the EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures (FEFANA) launched its vision on the feed industry in 2030. What needs to be changed in terms of feed safety and are we on track to make the feed chain more sustainable? All About Feed talked to Gerritjan van der Ven, the new President of FEFANA, about FEFANA’s vision to feed animals and hence humans in the coming years and what the global feed sector needs to do unfold and exploit its full potential to do so.

Probiotics for welfare

Beak trimming is commonly used to reduce the incidence of feather pecking but this practice will be banned in the whole EU as of 2018. The side effects of non-trimmed beaks is an increased feed intake, as the birds have less plumage to keep them warm. Probiotics can be part of the solution. In her article on page 26 of this issue, Pauline Paap from Orffa explains the trials they have done and what the outcomes were.
