Balchem Corp. acquires Akzo Nobel unit

03-05-2007 | |

Chemical company Balchem Corp. completed the acquisition of the European-based choline chloride and methylamines businesses of Akzo Nobel Chemicals SpA.

The acquisition is valued at about €5.6 million ($7.6
million), according to a filing made last month with the Securities and Exchange
Commission.

Choline chloride is a nutritional additive used in animal
feed and human food products; methylamines are used to make choline chloride.

Balchem and Akzo Nobel announced the deal on April 2. The facility and
business, which last year recorded $35 million in sales, employ about 75 people
in Marano Ticino, Italy, and will be operated by Balchem Italia Srl.
