China to close small soybean crushers

05-09-2008 | |

The National Development and Reform Commission in China will limit soy processing capacity at 75 million tonnes a year in 2010 and further reduce that to 65 million tonnes in 2012.

China will therefore close small soybean crushers
while restricting expansion by big plants.

The commission will not
approve new facilities or expansion by individual soy plants or groups that
already process more than 15 percent of the country’s annual total.
