Royal DSM N.V., the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company headquartered in the Netherlands, said its Scotland based vitamin manufacturing facility has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard certification.
The Dalry based facility, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, is
the only Western manufacturer of vitamin C and produces the vitamin under the
brand name Quali-C™.
DSM joins a select group of the first twelve “Pathfinder”
companies to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard.
The Carbon Trust Standard is the world’s
first accreditation scheme designed to allow companies to measure the carbon
footprint of their operations and facilitate an independent, specialist review
of energy management practices.
The use of the Carbon Trust Standard logo
allows companies to then communicate their commitment to combating climate
change.
The award requires organizations to provide evidence on real
reductions in their own CO2 emissions rather than paying third parties to reduce
emissions via off-setting or green tariffs.
The Standard is awarded by
The Carbon Trust, an independent organization set up by the UK Government in
2001 to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy by working with
organizations to reduce carbon emissions and develop commercial low carbon
technologies.
