The European Union produced less compound animal feed in 2008, compared to 2007, according to ZMP. However, individual countries saw some significant changes.
Slovenia (8% lower production than in 2007), Slovakia (-6%) and Lithuania (-4%), for example reported decreases in mixed feed production. Germany and France increased production by around 3%, making them the two biggest mixed animal feed producers in the EU. Portugal, the UK and the Netherlands kept production relatively stable in 2008.
The most significant feed producers in the EU in 2008 were France, Germany, Spain and the UK. Cattle feed production increased last year, whilst pig feed and poultry feed output were lower, ZMP notes.
