EU approve probiotic Calsporin for poultry, sport and ornamental birds

10-05-2011 | |

The European Commission has approved the use of the probiotic Calsporin (Bacillus subtilis C-3102, No. 4b1820 – gut flora stabilizer) for turkeys, chickens reared for laying, ducks, geese, game birds, pigeons and ornamental birds.

This registration makes Calsporin the first EU registered probiotic for the use in feed for all sport and ornamental birds.

Calsporin contains live spores of Bacillus subtilis C-3102, and is with a content of 1.0 x 1010 CFU / gram highly concentrated. Calsporin is heat resistant and extremely stable, it can easily be used as well in bird supplements as in heat treated (pellet and expanded) feed.

Calsporin improves digestive health and nutrient digestion. The probiotic promotes and stabilizes an optimal intestinal microflora in shifting the microbial colonization in favor of mainly Lactobacillus spp. The proportion of pathogenic bacteria such as Coliforms and Clostridium spp. will be reduced.

Calsporin is beneficial for the digestive health of birds and practical to use in avian feeds.
