Fatty acids to fight bad bugs in poultry

01-06-2010 | |

Kemira Pro GIT SF3-enriched in C12 is the latest innovation of highly effective feed additives for the poultry industry.

It is a functional composition based on the combination of Short Chain Fatty Acids and their calcium salts with Medium Chain Fatty Acids – the latter being fractionated fatty acids from coconut- and palm kernel oil.

The MCFA facilitate and broaden the antibacterial action of SCFA in the whole Gastro Intestinal Tract (GIT).

Pro GIT SF3 is effective as well in the acidic gastric environment as in the more neutral intestinal environment; as well against gram negative (Salmonella, E.coli) as against gram positive pathogens (Clostridium perfringens).

Data indicate that C12 (lauric acid) is the most inhibitory saturated medium chain fatty acid against Clostridium perfringens.

Broiler trials from various independent research institutes have shown the synergistic effects of these MCFAs with the SCFAs in Pro GIT SF3, resulting in significant performance improvements (Poland 2009).

Moreover, it was shown that Pro GIT SF3-enriched in C12 can perfectly be used as an alternative to AGP’s (Australia 2009).
