FDA investigates pet food contaminant

07-06-2007 | |

As if the recent pet food scare wasn’t bad enough, rumours go around that lab tests found a pain killer in some pet food.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that a lab testing for more contaminated
pet food recently made a surprising discovery. It found Acetaminophen — the
ingredient used in Tylenol — in some food. Acetaminophen is a human pain
reliever, and should not be in pet food, as it can seriously harm pets.

While the lab can not reveal which pet food brands tested positive for
the drugs, the FDA has launched an investigation.
