Feed the gut first- factors affecting intestinal protein turnover

Protein turnover in the gut, such as mucous and enzyme production/secretion, sloughing of mucosal cells and local immune proteins, is one of the complications of measuring total protein requirement. It can be extremely high, but is subject to dietary influence.
