Fire destroys $10 million worth of grain

A fire at a grain elevator in Byron, Minnesota USA destroyed as much as $10 million worth of grain, authorities said.

The Greenway Co-op elevator was reduced totally ruined
after catching fire early Saturday morning. “We still have some spots that are
smoldering, and we’re keeping an eye on it,” Fire Chief Jeff Thorpe
said.

As many as 60 firefighters from the Byron, Kasson and Mantorville
volunteer fire departments fought the blaze. Police evacuated residents from the
area. “For the first two hours, until we could get a handle on it and control
the fire, we didn’t know where it was going to stop,” Thorpe said. “It was a
large fire and there was a lot of heat.”
