New Vip strip helps manage corn export risk

29-08-2011 | |

EnviroLogix has released the QuickStix Kit for Vip3A, a rapid test strip to detect the presence of the Vip3A protein in bulk corn grain. With a limit of detection of 0.25%, the test strip can be utilized in both commodity and identity preservation supply chains.

Using the EnviroLogix Common Extraction method, the test can be used by itself or alongside custom QuickCombs for an uncomplicated screening approach.

The simple grinding step and water extraction, giving a yes/no answer within five minutes, makes the kit for Vip3A an easy-to-use and practical solution for most grain-handling situations.

Vip3A is an insecticidal protein expressed by crops containing Syngenta’s MIR162 technology for protection from a variety of insects.

Some grain exporters and ethanol plants reportedly will not accept Syngenta’s Agrisure Viptera corn this harvest because the Vip3A trait has not been approved for import by China.

In addition to the bulk grain test, EnviroLogix offers Vip3A test kits for corn leaf and single seed, cotton leaf and seed, and bulk cottonseed samples.
