Perten celebrates 5 decades of grains testing

Aiming at a quick test for sprout damage at grain elevators Perten Instruments was founded in 1962 by cereal chemist Harald Perten.

Recently moved from Segeltorp to Hägersten in Sweden, Perten Instruments was founded on the commercialization of the now world standard Falling Number Method.

The Falling Number Method provides a rapid, simple-to-use test to determine sprout damage at grain elevators – a critical trade and end-use parameter.

The Falling Number development helped set key instrument criteria found in all Perten products – fast, accurate, easy-to-use, and simple-to-interpret.

Working closely with universities, researchers, and private industry, Perten is at the forefront of testing and analysis of grains, grain products, feed and food production and provides both functional and compositional forms of analysis.

“We are proud and much honoured to celebrate fifty years in business,” states Jan Perten – son of founder Harald Perten. "The original business goal was to provide easy-to-use, quality control solutions to grain handlers, millers, and bakers."

Sven Holmlund – CEO of Perten – states "By focusing on solutions rather than being strictly technology driven, we bring problem-solving applications to market rather than simply new instruments.

“That was the case in the beginning with the Falling Number Method, and remains the case. Today, even more is demanded of our analyzers with requirements for in-line/on-line devices, interfacing to plant systems, and automation to free workers for more difficult tasks.”
