Qatar in need of local feed production

09-01-2009 | |

Food has become expensive in Qatar and now animal feeds are following the same trend. More local production seems an option.

Animal feed is to become expensive in Qatar, much to the chagrin of farm
owners in the country.

The Central Municipal Council (CMC) this week
debated the issue and urged the government to set up a company to produce animal
feed so that supplies ease locally, bringing the prices down.

There is
only one major animal feed producer in the country currently (Al Jabor Grains
& Feed Company). The CMC has also asked this firm to enhance
production.

CMC member Mohamed Al Khayarin, said that while in other
countries the price of animal feed fluctuates, “here once it goes up it never
comes down.”
