Russia allows rice imports again

14-12-2006 | |

Russia will gradually restart imports of rice after a stop last week. Imports will be allowed again through a reduced number of ports, the country’s animal and plant health watchdog said at the weekend.

It did not specify the date of the possible restart. “We have already
selected three ports through which imports will be allowed,” Sergei Dankvert,
head of the watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, told Reuters. He added Russia would
accept all shipments of rice loaded on or before December
4.
