Vietnam ministries discuss high feed prices

15-07-2008 | |

A meeting to seek solutions to stabilise prices and quality of animal feed was held in Hanoi, Vietnam on July 10.

The meeting was led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development
Vu Van Tam with the participation of representatives from relevant ministries,
branches and 20 enterprises. According to the Animal Husbandry Department, a
main reason for rising prices of animal feed is the production sector’s much
dependence on prices of imported materials.

At the meeting, enterprises
suggested that animal feed should be added in the important and essential
commodities list so that they could enjoy the State’s credit policy; the value
added tax for such materials as corn, soybeans and cassava should be abrogated;
import tax on some materials for animal feed production should be
cut.

Deputy Minister Tam affirmed that materials for animal feed
production would be still imported in the coming time and he requested relevant
agencies to focus on dealing with issues relating to import procedures, to well
organise production and supply and control quality of animal feed so as to
ensure that no sudden changes in prices happen.
