C&D Foods is the largest supplier of own-label pet food products to the Irish and UK markets.
The company said the ‘unprecedented and continuing weakness of sterling’ [compared to the euro] is a major cause of concern for the company’s business in Ireland, where 90% of its entire manufactured product is exported to the UK. Ireland is a euro-country.
The lay-offs were confirmed by Managing Director Philip Reynolds in a statement.
Twenty jobs will be lost when production on one line ceases at Easter, and there are no immediate plans for it to restart.
Automation in another section of the plant is responsible for the remaining nine redundancies.
