This expected growth in the annual forecast is based on significant differences being revealed in the first half of 2024 compared to last year.
The Brazilian National Union of the Animal Feed Industry (Sindirações) forecasts that the country may increase its production by 2.3% and reach by 86 million tonnes of feed and concentrates in 2024.
“The annual outlook anticipates significant differences, as exemplified by the notable increase in feed for laying hens, beef cattle, and aquaculture, in contrast to a more moderate expectation regarding feed for dairy cattle and swine,” notes Ariovaldo Zani, CEO of Sindirações.
This volume demands around 55 million tonnes of maize and over 18 million tonnes of soybean meal, as well as 540,000 tonnes of premixes composed of vitamins, trace minerals, and other additives that enhance the productivity of Brazilian livestock.
The Brazilian industry produced 42 million tonnes of feed and concentrates in the first half of 2024, 1.4% higher than in comparison to the same period last year.
The National Slaughter Survey revealed significant differences in the first half of 2024, such as an 8% increase in egg production, a 0.3% increase in the weight of pig carcasses, a 20.8% increase in beef carcass weight, and a 2.1% increase in milk acquisition.
In addition, the cost of feed for broiler chickens and swine dropped by more than 20% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, mainly due to a reduction of over 15% in maize prices.
However, the 8.5% appreciation of the US dollar impacted the cost of imported inputs.
