dsm-firmenich has put into operation a new premix and feed additive manufacturing plant in Sadat City, Egypt, eyeing to take advantage of the growing demand in the feed market of North Africa.

The facility, officially inaugurated on 12 September 2024, is a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to meeting the increasing demand from mid-range and large livestock farms and feed millers for premixes and innovative feed additives, the company stated.

The new production unit, which will cater to customers in Egypt, the Middle East, Southern Europe, and Africa, spans an area of 10,000 sqm and is equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced technology from Bühler Technologies, incorporating an integrated plant control system with barcoding.

“With an annual production capacity of 10,000 tonnes, the plant is designed to meet the highest standards of production efficiency, food safety, quality, and environmental sustainability. It adheres to the highest international quality and safety standards applicable to specialty feed ingredients,” dsm-firmenich said.

The company stated that the plant will process a variety of specialised animal nutrition products, such as vitamins, minerals, and innovative feed additives. Situated strategically in Sadat City, the facility provides logistical advantages, ensuring efficient delivery to customers in the domestic and international feed and animal protein sectors.

Demand to be met

The demand for innovative feed solutions is expected to rise across Egypt and North Africa in the coming years as farmers strive to achieve better feeding efficiency.

Productivity is low in Egypt’s poultry sector – a backbone of the country’s food industry – and great advances could be made with improvements in management practices, feed efficiency and the adoption of new technology to achieve higher productivity, Dr Mahmoud Riyad, secretary general of the Egyptian Milling Association told All About Feed in an interview earlier in 2024. He indicated that efficiency could increase further with greater private sector adoption of advanced production techniques and management skills.
