dsm-firmenich has announced the initiation of a process to “separate out the Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) business from the Group”. According to the company, the ANH business is driven by different dynamics to the rest of the Group, which has become more apparent with the challenges in the vitamins market. dsm-firmenich notes that the full potential of the ANH business could be best realised through a different ownership structure for which all potential separation options will be considered and expects to be in a position to separate the business in 2025.
Massachusetts-based Waters Corporation has launched the new Fumo-V One Strip Test from its Vicam portfolio, a quantitative lateral flow strip test to test fumonisin in finished feed and pet foods in the range of 0.5-30 ppm in less than 10 minutes using water extraction. The new test enables monitoring of aflatoxin, fumonisin, and DON on-the-spot during feed production. Customers can also obtain on-site in less than 10 minutes for complex finished feeds.
Elanco Animal Health has entered into an agreement to sell its aqua business to Merck Animal Health for approximately US$1.3 billion, which represents approximately 7.4x the estimated 2023 revenue of the Elanco aqua business. The aqua business includes products across both warm-water and cold-water species, generating an estimated $175 million in revenue.

dsm-firmenich and Donau Soja, an international non-profit organisation supporting sustainable European soya, have announced their partnership to highlight the environmental footprint of animal feeds and feed ingredients using Sustell, the LCA platform for the animal protein value chain which enables the feed and animal protein sectors to precisely measure and improve their sustainability.
Animal feed formulation software company A-Systems has set a new agreement with Nutrispices to represent A-Systems’ solutions to animal feed producers in Vietnam. Since 2018, A-Systems and Nutrispices have benefitted from a collaboration in Thailand and the company reports that today, more than a third of Thai feed production is optimised by Allix.
Phileo by Lesaffre says that its Actisaf Sc 47 yeast probiotic is a sustainable solution to boost farm profitability and curb the environmental impact of dairy farming. A life cycle assessment indicated a significant reduction in the carbon footprint by up to 5% during the period of supplementation. Benefits are not limited to GHG intensity, it also has positive impact on land use and eutrophication, said the company.
In its most recent World Mycotoxin Survey (January – December 2023), dsm-firmenich collected and analysed 23,808 samples from 95 countries. The results concluded that Fusarium mycotoxins fumonisins, deoxynivalenol and zearalenone are most frequently found, with the highest regions of mycotoxins found in North and Central America, South Asia, China and Taiwan. The report noted that over 80% of swine feed material samples revealed multiple mycotoxins, with only 6% below detection limits.
Meanwhile, Cargill’s world mycotoxin report contains more than 350,0000 mycotoxin analyses captured annually across 150+ feed plants, on-farm samplings and storage locations. This year’s report includes forage samples, capturing 17,000+ forage mycotoxin analyses globally. The report noted that while there was a slightly reduced intensity compared to 2022, the percentage of positive samples remains notably high.
AB Agri has announced the appointment of David Williams as its new managing director. Williams, who brings a wealth of executive experience within the dairy industry, will head up its dairy businesses within the UK and Ireland.
Alltech has grown its portfolio, which requires a new team, the Technology Group, to support this growth. This team will be responsible for Alltech’s nutritional technologies, services and technical support. To lead this team, Alltech has appointed Nick Adams (UK) as commercial director, Dr Jules Taylor-Pickard (UK) as technical director, and Martin Minchin (UK) as commercial marketing director. Other recent Alltech appointments include Dr Daniel Graugnard (US), dairy research director.
Dr Manish Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new regional director for Novus in South Central Asia. In this role, Singh, with 15 years of experience working in South Asia and Asia-Pacific regions in various roles, is responsible for developing and executing the Novus business strategy in the region.
