Dutch feed manufacturer, ForFarmers, will leave the Dutch trade organisation, Nevedi, with effect 01 Jan 2025, confirms spokesperson Ilse Niehof. Membership expires at the end of this year and will not be renewed. However, current projects in which ForFarmers itself is involved will continue.
ForFarmers speaks of a ‘well-considered’ decision, which was already communicated to the trade organisation last month. The Dutch feed manufacturer believes that membership no longer has enough added value. Moreover, the company sees itself as a full discussion and knowledge partner for other parties.
The step is all to do with the ‘transition’ livestock farming, the animal feed sector and the Forfarmers company currently find themselves in, according to Niehof. Nevedi has a sustainability vision, but ForFarmers does not see its own spearheads sufficiently reflected in it. Niehof mentions Renure (REcovered Nitrogen from manURE) as an example, which ForFarmers would work on much more than Nevedi. “Nevedi’s ambitions in the field of sustainability are not bad, but ForFarmers is a bit tighter here and there,” says Niehof. “Nevedi has to unite the interests of all members and then you get compromises. Very understandable. But if our spearheads are not reflected enough, we will do it ourselves.”
Agrifirm also confirmed on October 11 that it is leaving Nevedi, albeit under conditions. “Given the loss of an important member, the inefficient organisation and the high membership costs, Agrifirm has now decided to inform Nevedi that it will cancel its membership as of December 31, 2024, unless a proposal is put on the table for a more efficient and effective Nevedi organisation,” the company answers questions about this.
Like ForFarmers, Agrifirm points out the changes facing the livestock farming sector. Agrifirm believes that this requires strong representation from Nevedi towards various stakeholders, chain partners and governments. “Agrifirm sees that Nevedi has not played a complementary role in this for some time,” is the response.
According to Agrifirm, intensive discussions have been held in recent years to see how Nevedi fits in with Agrifirm’s ambitions.
“Given our broader business strategy, Agrifirm decided years ago to invest in its own representation towards the Dutch and European governments,” said the spokesperson.
Agrifirm has not yet closed the door definitively, and states that discussions are now taking place about how Nevedi can “possibly” fulfil this role.
